The early american reading group
The Reading Group in Earlier American Literature and Culture, a collegial group of students and faculty, takes up questions associated with primary and secondary writings in American studies from the era of contact through the nineteenth century. We have informal meetings on a monthly basis, along with an unmoderated listserve serving the group's interests and inquiry. For its meetings, the group collectively decides upon its readings and presentations, sometimes serving as a sounding board for the study of critically important as well historically understudied primary works; sometimes as an audience for scholarly presentations; sometimes as a reading group studying secondary readings by scholars outside Penn State or student or faculty scholarly writing; and always with the hopes of working towards greater professionalization. A collaborative seminar, the group rotates it leadership and goals, depending on the collective interests of the group members each year. All are welcome to participate in meetings and to serve as session leaders.
Dustin Kennedy is this year's organizer.
